I’ve had an influx of new subscribers in the past 24 hours thanks to Lui Godinho’s feature about me in Saturday’s issue of The Goan. I wanted to say a warm welcome to everyone who is new here, it means a lot to have you subscribing to my work and following along on my Goan food journey.
I became acquainted with Lui about 3 years ago and he has been a great help to me in connecting me with other Goan journalists and giving me loads of tips prior to my 2023 trip to Goa - it was such a pleasure to be chosen for this feature and to have the chance to reach a wider audience as I embark on lots of exciting things in 2024.

I’ll keep it short and sweet but for the new people, my name is Emma and I am a chef and a business owner of (half)Goan heritage living and working in London. I started this newsletter just as I was getting started learning and writing about Goan cuisine and it’s been such a vital tool for me to meet lots of the Goan community online. After visiting Goa in 2023, launching Goan cookery classes at my old cookery school Leiths and getting my Goan spice mixes stocked in Selfridges department store, this year I am doing a huge rebrand of my business.
I hope you will continue to follow along as I use this space to chronicle everything I’m doing - my substack is going to become a place where I journal the ups and downs of being a food business founder, my ongoing research into Goan cuisine, recipes (both Goan and not!) and as a community hub where we can all chat to each other.
